- Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain, by David Eagleman. This is a book about neuroscience, but many of the underlying ideas relate to the natural predictive abilities of our brains. Choice quote: “Evolution favors pattern seeking, because it allows the possibility of reducing mysteries to fast and efficient programs in the neural circuitry.” Eagleman draws some conclusions about how our legal frameworks may need to adapt as greater biological insight into behavior enables greater predictive power for qualities such as likelihood of criminals to reoffend.
